This project focused on London's Queer community. It focuses on the changes in the city’s queer spaces over the past 20 years, and how over time the scene has changed. The community is faced with the closure of spaces, a need for more diverse spaces, and the way in which this change in spaces has affected the community.

Through this project I documented iconic queer spaces in London that have closed over the last 20 years, and imposing over them quotes from current organizers and heads of surviving and new space. My aim is to document and inform. As well as bringing light to this issue I also want to provide an avenue for people to learn about this period of queer history AND how to aid the reclaiming of queer spaces and help London's queer future.

This was a self-led 4-week residency based in Peckham, concluding in a group show at Safe House. The residency was a continuation of my exploration of London’s queer venues but shifted the focus of my research to focus on the future of queer space, which may not lie in permanent establishments but in the ‘queering’ of existing spaces. The resulting work of this residency is a club-like space in a stairway. I wanted to invite people to come and occupy it. Instead of music in this ‘club’ the viewer is invited to listen to interviews from Ben Campmkin, Victoria Godswood, Rebecca Ross and K Anderson about the importance of queer archiving and from London and read through a zine I made documenting the venues of Londons Queer past.

CONVERSATIONS WITH QUEERNESS: QUEERING SPACE

OPENING NIGHT OF safe houS.E, NOVEMBER 2022

This project was created as part of my Ma program. My intention for the animation is to show a morning routine but from the perspective of the place, or more specifically, the table. The audio is a recording is me going about my business in the morning making a cup of tea and toast. Taking a domestic, solitary mundane moment and prolonging it.

Shadow of the 80s is a collection of multiple drawn works exploring the infiltration of songs from the 80s into my existing works on shadows. This exhibition pulls together numerous works from a 2 year period to exist within a new context, catalysing a new way of perceiving the drawings. The show invites the viewer to step into the creative process, allowing for a new approach in experiencing the work as both fun and lighthearted.
